Nintendo Direct: 3DS Edition

The Nintendo Direct happened this week, focused on 3DS. Nintendo announced new games, updates, and DLC for the rest of 2016 and 2017. There are new stuff releasing this week that seems interesting to take a look at. If you’re a new or old 3DS owner, this Direct is packed with information. Setting up this event reassured that the 3DS is living and well.

There were a lot of new announcements during the direct.  One of which was a new game called, Ever Oasis. This is an adventure, role-playing game. And is set to be released in 2017. You will be playing a hero named Tethu. As Tethu you will be doing the usual dungeon crawling, fighting monsters, and talking to NPCs. A mechanic that I want to see is the visitor system. NPCs will travel through the world and will visit your hometown. Along away you can recruit them.

One announcement that got me excited is the re-release of Super Mario Maker for 3DS. I’ve always wanted to play Mario Maker but I never owned a Wii-U. This is perfect for the 3DS. Making levels can now be made on the go and be shared locally. The 3DS version won’t have all Wii-U levels. But if the success of the Wii-U version means anything. Players will quickly and actively make new levels to fill the empty gaps. New players (like me) will have an easier experience creating a level with tutorials that will guide players with the tools.

Nintendo are adding updates to Streetpass. StreetPass can now hold up to 100 players if you’re a premium user. Premium access will give you a new feature, “Line”. The extra feature-filled version of the mini-game costs $4.99. Streetpass will have five new games to play with your Mii. You can get one of two games, Slot Car Rivials or Market Crashers free if you have downloaded the update. Streetpass will also have three additional games, Free Mii, Mii Trek and Ninja Launcher. All five games will be sold on the E-shop for $2.99 each. Or a four game bundle (excluding the free game) will set you back $8.99.

When I first heard that Nintendo was doing a Direct event, I was interested in finally hearing about the NX. After finding out that it’s not about the NX. I pretty much dismissed it. Now that the Direct is over, I’ve seen stories about all the new things Nintendo is doing for the 3DS. And the more I read deeper into the Direct the more interested I became. The games they are releasing for the handheld are new IPs and ports of existing games. The 3DS has the community covered with games from many genres. New or old to the 3DS this Direct will have everything you want in a 3DS centric event.

The Nintendo Direct was shown via live broadcast on September 1, 2016

Fortnite: Battle Royale: Season 4 Just Made Some Crazy Changes and I in Love with it

Fortnite has become this huge juggernaut in the gaming industry ever since Epic released their Battle Royale mode in late September. The Battle Pass implementation gave the player a progression system that gamify the Battle Royale mode, of which PUBG does not have. Having something to accomplish in-between gathering and fighting during each match creates a sense of accomplishment. In a game where there is a 100-player free-for-all fight, your chances of winning are low, allowing the Battle Pass rewards gives the player this satisfaction of accomplishment even if you lose. Over the past month, Epic has been teasing and creating ARGs in-game for the lead up to Season 4. Hearing about the meteors crashing down on Tilted Towers was cool but I didn’t think anything of it, as I thought it to be a cosmetic choice. But after seeing the video where Titled Towers got hit with small meteors during a match made me believe that the rumored Superhero themed Season Pass might be true. Long a
