My Game of the Year (2017) – The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild #1

2017 will be remembered for all these amazing games. Nintendo will also be remembered in 2017 for releasing the Nintendo Switch and how it changed many gamers play their games. Nintendo’s 2017 saw the release of a new 3D Mario , two sequels to two highly recommended games in Splatoon 2 and Xenoblade Chronicles 2 , and lastly, a completely new IP with ARMS and much more. Though the Switch was this massive success it wasn’t always portrayed that way. At the January reveal event Nintendo showed the promise of what the Nintendo Switch could be. They showed off many games that I listed above, but also some that would be releasing next year. As the event ended the community had mix feelings about the whole Switch event with only 3-4 launch games with the Switch. One of those launch games were The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, my #1 game of 2017 and the first example of how the Switch is truly the most innovative console in recent memory. Breath of the Wild saved the Swi

My Game of the Year (2017) – Horizon Zero Dawn #2

Watching this game for the first time at E3 my jaw dropped at the stunning visuals, the world its trying to create and, most important are the amazingly designed mechanize dinosaurs. When I heard that the developers of Killzone were making this game, it made me a little warry. Hearing that this is an open world 3 rd person RPG – these were not the type of games Guerrilla Games developed.  Guerrilla was always known for their tight first-person shooting, and for them to make something out of their comfort zone could be something special or something that had promise but flopped. It’s great to say that Horizon Zero Dawn was an amazing accomplishment for Guerilla Games this year and year to come. Horizon’s Open World is Lush and Lively The world in Horizon is so interesting and full of mysteries it keeps you wondering for most of the game. As the game goes on you learn more about Aloy’s (Main character) past and how she is tied within the world. The cities and settle

My Game of the Year (2017) – Destiny 2 #3

There was a lot of excitement for the Bungie ’s second go around with Destiny 2 . There was a lot of controversy over what was changed and what didn’t return from the first Destiny .  At first the changes were for the better, it allowed new players to finally wrap their head around the system that was difficult to process in original Destiny.   Rising reputation with an NPC is one change that was assessable newcomers. In Destiny 1 it always felt like a chore, because of the bounty system. This system made it a more difficult task due to the action associated with the bounty – this can range from headshots with a sniper in PvP to complete 3 strikes. With Destiny 2 , the reputation is more streamline with turn-in tokens. Earning these tokens are common and I great resource of gear/weapons when you’re first starting out. These tokens are associated with each planet. Its great Bungie is listening to the players and in doing so, made an assessable loot shooter for the casual play

My Game of the Year (2017) – Super Mario: Odyssey #4

At the beginning of the year Nintendo was at the backend of the console market. We knew that they were going to launch a brand-new console, but was that enough to put Nintendo back in the conversation? In March, Nintendo was set to launch their new console – The Nintendo Switch along with the highly anticipated Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Nintendo promise a trickle of game every month, for the most part they stayed true to that with re-releases of Wii-U games, new exclusive games, and an abundance of indie games. But the next highly anticipated game for Nintendo was Mario Odyssey set to release in October. Now the we understand the importance and the impact the Switch has in the industry. A hybrid console that can be played at home and on the go in handheld. When you combine the portable nature of the Switch and how Mario: Odyssey’s pick-up and play gameplay of collection is – it’s a perfect storm of joy in any time of day. Mario Odyssey Made Me Feel Like a Kid Again Th

My Game of the Year (2017) – Pyre #5

2017 will be in the history books for Videogames, and rightfully so, with many amazing games that released all throughout the year. Also, let’s not forget that 2017 saw a release of two consoles that changed the way gamers experience console gaming. But this isn’t about the hardware we play the games on, this is about the games that struck a cord with me. A game that made me think about it and its messages or the simple fact that its too fun to stop playing. The #5 game on my list is a small indie game, created by notable indie creators behind, Bastion, and Transistor. Supergiant’s new game -- Pyre. Pyre’s – Well Realized World Pyre, at its core is a visual novel set in a world where literacy is banned, people who break the ban are exiled to a place called the Downside. During the time in the Downside you (The Reader) find and join companions called The Nightwings that want a way out of the Downside, and the only way out is to complete a series of Rites – which is a

Bungie’s Last Curse of Osiris Stream Canceled to Address Higher Priority Issues

Yesterday was supposed to be the last stream leading up to Curse of Osiris, however the stream was canceled due to the backlash Bungie was receiving. Earlier this week a Redditor that goes by EnergiserX did some testing and found out that the number displayed for how much experience was earned didn’t match the experience bar at the bottom. We later found out, in a Bungie post that addressed this problem – experience will scale up if playing longer or activities like Crucible, and Leviathan Raid. Playing quick and monotonous activates like Public Events will scale down. In the same post, Bungie has deactivated that system due to the reaction of the community. This made a sour taste for players in the community – as they thought Bungie hasn’t been transparent as past years. Due to this kerfuffle Bungie announced, a day before the stream – that it was canceled to address bigger issues in the game. This was a great change to the schedule, though the new gears would’ve been awesome

Destiny 2: Curse of Osiris Stream #2 – “New Ways to Play”

Last week Bungie hosted part 1 of a 3-part stream talking about Osiris, Mercury, the Lighthouse, and the Raid Lair. Yesterday’s stream was the second part and in the stream, they went more in-depth about the activities on Mercury. We saw the biggest public event in Destiny, narrative Strikes, the Infinite Forest, and more information on the forge. Even though they gave us meaty information about the expansion they are keeping other aspect of the expansion hidden for us players to discover. This stream we welcome back DeeJ as our host, as well as Dave Matthews (Art Director) and Dan Miller (Game Director). After the introductions of the hosts they dived into the biggest public event in Destiny. The event was prerecorded because public events are random, and no one knows how long it would take to spawn. The Biggest Public Event in Destiny This public event is exclusive to Mercury and each phase has a hand-crafted area designed just for this public event. With every phase the

Destiny 2: Curse of Osiris Stream #1 – “New Stories to Tell”

With just under three weeks until the release of Curse of Osiris – Destiny 2’s first expansion, Bungie and their teams are hosting streams leading up to the release. These streams will be held on November 29 th , 21 st , and the 15 th . Each stream will have a main theme that will reveal more of the expansion. The final stream, held on the 29 th is centered around “New Gears to Earn” showing off new gear and weapons along with some new PvP maps. The stream held on the 21 st is all about “New Ways to Play” and all the activities that will challenge you and your Fireteam. The first stream has gone and went; however, we did see somethings that the community wanted – including me. At the beginning of the stream, Bungie revealed a new trailer for Curse of Osiris. The trailer showed us Osiris and his Ghost – Sagira chatting while they were infiltrating the Vex. He passes through the Vex gate and pauses time to helps the other guardians. Osiris then, looks into a time gate and sees a

“The Curse of Osiris” DLC Is Enough to Bring Players Back to Destiny 2

When Destiny 2 launched two months ago, everybody who had played it had a really great experience. Whether that be doing the campaign missions, strikes, playing PvP in crucible or trials, or even the head bashing leviathan raid. It was one of the most talked about game for the majority of September. However, after the honey moon stage of the game many players saw the flaws of the end-game. After the raid, there wasn’t much to do outside of Nightfall and Trials. Both Nightfall and Trials are challenging, but for the non-PvP players the only thing to look forward every week are the Nightfall and simple world activities. Trials is also a challenging activity, but not everyone bought into the changes of PvP and few players don’t want to engage with other players. The question is how much content will be featured in the first DLC? Well, we got our first look and release date for “The Curse of Osiris” On Monday October 30 th PlayStation revealed a trailer, as well as a release da

Destiny 2 Event: An Underwhelming Return for Lord Saladin and The Iron Banner

Over the last week Destiny 2 held The Iron Banner, an event that occurs every month. Lord Saladin visits the tower with neat looking armor and weapons that will be rewarded to the guardians that are participating. This new iteration of The Iron Banner is great for new players, it gives them a reason to come back every day and the token system is simple, unlike the bounty system in Destiny 1. Though this iteration of Iron Banner caters to the new and casual audience, it leaves us mid to hardcore players with not much to care about. There’s nothing that progresses our power level, no difficulty with Light advantage off, and on top of that, players not committing to an Iron Banner match. Eastern-Inspired Iron Banner Gear  I’ve dabbled in Iron Banner in Destiny 1, it wasn’t my kind of game mode. I liked the PvP in both Destiny and Destiny 2, but once someone talks about hardcore PvP my interest was gone, my only incentives were getting the gear and getting my Light leve
