“The Curse of Osiris” DLC Is Enough to Bring Players Back to Destiny 2

When Destiny 2 launched two months ago, everybody who had played it had a really great experience. Whether that be doing the campaign missions, strikes, playing PvP in crucible or trials, or even the head bashing leviathan raid. It was one of the most talked about game for the majority of September. However, after the honey moon stage of the game many players saw the flaws of the end-game.

After the raid, there wasn’t much to do outside of Nightfall and Trials. Both Nightfall and Trials are challenging, but for the non-PvP players the only thing to look forward every week are the Nightfall and simple world activities. Trials is also a challenging activity, but not everyone bought into the changes of PvP and few players don’t want to engage with other players. The question is how much content will be featured in the first DLC? Well, we got our first look and release date for “The Curse of Osiris”

On Monday October 30th PlayStation revealed a trailer, as well as a release date of December 5th at Paris Games Week. The trailer shows us an iconic character in the Destiny lore that has never been revealed, Osiris. This brings excitement to the community as we finally see Osiris and his mysteries of time. Osiris will play a major role in the DLC, but the Vex will also play a heavy part as well.
The DLC will have more content for us to do, but will it be the repeat of launch? Are we going to have fun until the end-game? Is there incentive to keep playing? These questions are issues that need to be addressed, if not for old content, then it must be addressed for the upcoming activities.

Curse of Osiris Details

Now let’s get into what Bungie is going to implement with the Curse of Osiris DLC. Eurogamer reported on many different aspects of the DLC from new location to new raid activity.

Leveling was a great experience, parts of that was the amazing shooting and another is the satisfaction of watching your number rise. We’ll get another chance to have that leveling experience as the level cap will now be raised to 25 and everyone’s power level will also increase to 330. Hopefully these level increases will make the numbers feel more impactful the only reason those levels are present are to gate players out of content.

Curse of Osiris will have a new planet – Mercury, which will have its own Crucible map. Along with Mercury, The Lighthouse will also be added. Original Destiny players will know and have seen this lighthouse, but not all players, because you would’ve need to go flawless in Trials to enter. This gives a chance for players like me, who never had a flawless run in Destiny to see this Lighthouse.

Of course, with most of Destiny’s DLC they’ll add new world quest, new missions, new strikes, new adventures (hopefully Bungie adds incentive to do this activities) new free roaming activities, and a “new raid activity.” Eurogamer asked if that means a new raid? And Bungie replied, “new raid content.” It’s clear that there won’t be a whole new raid, but that isn’t confirmed. Many players were guessing that it will be a remake of the “Vault of Glass” the first raid in Destiny. This would be great for every player, the nostalgic feeling for returning players will get them playing this for many reasons. For the new players it’s a whole new experience.

However, recently PlayStation’s EU Blog posted a “10 Things to Know About Destiny 2 First Expansion, Curse of Osiris” which talks about Osiris, the Vex and their importance in the DLC. The article also mentioned new Quests, Strikes, Missions, and more. “Curse of Osiris comes packed with content. A new Quest, Missions, Stirkes, Adventures and Raid activity will soon make Mercury feel like your new home for the long-term as you start tackling those new milestones.” This quote gives us a little more information on what we should expect regarding Mercury and the raid content. It seems like the “Raid activity” won’t be a remake of Vault of Glass nor will it be additional content for the current Leviathan raid. Instead, it looks like whatever this raid activity is it will be located on Mercury. If that isn’t enough confirmation, here is the 6-person fireteam queuing for an activity on Mercury. The only 6-person content in Destiny 2 are the raids, making this possibly a new raid, even if Bungie isn’t saying so.

Destiny 2 is in a rough spot as almost everyone is reaching or at max power level with not much to do. In just over a month, there will be an abundance of activities to do with new PvP maps, a new explorable planet, and a new raid activity. There will be many reasons to come back -- content, friends, or even loot, for me it’s all of the above – I’m really excited to have a reason to play again. The Curse of Osiris DLC is just the beginning of something incredible, just like Destiny 1 after its 3-year life span.

Mario Tennis Aces “Swing Mode” is Really Disappointing

Mario Tennis Aces is the latest entry to the Mario Tennis series. This time around Nintendo did no wrong with their tennis series giving us an adventure mode where you move from level to level to complete a series of challenges, a fun online/offline tournament, and exciting local play. I haven’t played the Mario Tennis series since the GameCube days, but I’m having as much fun as I did back then, expect for one mode that made me hate motion controls. During the lead up to launch I had questions about full motion controls, if they would support it for full matches? Can it be an alternative? and will it be like Wii Sports or will it have depth will in the base game? These questions were answered just a couple of days before launch and I was disappointed in how Nintendo implemented the motion controls. Coming from the developers of Wii Sports and how well the motion controls worked with the tennis mini-game gave me hope that Nintendo could do something great with motion ...

My Game of the Year (2017) – Destiny 2 #3

There was a lot of excitement for the Bungie ’s second go around with Destiny 2 . There was a lot of controversy over what was changed and what didn’t return from the first Destiny .  At first the changes were for the better, it allowed new players to finally wrap their head around the system that was difficult to process in original Destiny.   Rising reputation with an NPC is one change that was assessable newcomers. In Destiny 1 it always felt like a chore, because of the bounty system. This system made it a more difficult task due to the action associated with the bounty – this can range from headshots with a sniper in PvP to complete 3 strikes. With Destiny 2 , the reputation is more streamline with turn-in tokens. Earning these tokens are common and I great resource of gear/weapons when you’re first starting out. These tokens are associated with each planet. Its great Bungie is listening to the players and in doing so, made an assessable loot shooter for the ca...

My 2016 Game of the Year: # 5 Firewatch

#5 Firewatch When I first saw early builds of Firewatch I thought it was a different and new approach in an engaging narrative. The way you can interact with objects and the small clues you can find within the environment provides more life to the world. Firewatch was the first game I played in the genre, but there are other games that have the same kind of first-person narrative. Gone Home is one of the recent and well-received first-person narrative game. The two games are similar in gameplay, you walk from objective to objective trying to put the pieces together in the world. Gone Home is set in a house, and in Firewatch’s case, you’re in an open forest. Campo Santo are the developers of Firewatch and was formed by former Telltales: The Walking Dead developers. Once I knew about Campo Santo and the developers that were working on the game I had a sense of what to expect. Character Building Makes You Sympathize with Henry The game starts strong with a se...
