Super Puzzle Fighter Announced for Mobile

As a kid, I never was into puzzle games, mostly because my young brain wasn’t patient enough to handle the complexity of the puzzles even if it’s a simple puzzle game. One day hanging out a relative’s house, I saw one of my cousins playing something that seemed like a puzzle game but there was one difference – there were cartoon versions of my favorite fighting game, Street Fighter.

Watching these known characters battle while doing a Tetris-like puzzle was mind-blowing for a 7 or 8-year-old to comprehend. Though I never liked puzzle games, the fighting was a distraction. This game was the first game that made me thought that two games can work amazingly well as a single game.

That was 15 years ago, now its 2017 and Capcom is releasing a new Puzzle Fighter game on iOS and Android later this year. Capcom released two trailers showing some of the characters in action. Among those are Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li, even Megaman, and other Capcom properties. From the trailer, it seems like players will battle head-to-head in real-time with characters you unlock. The characters are depicted through cards – the more you play the more rewards you’ll be able to earn whether that be costumes, coins, etc. Also, for the hardcore fans – there are leaderboards for those who want to rise to the top.

The Battle Pass implementation gave the player a progression system that gamify the Battle Royale mode, of which PUBG does not have. Having something to accomplish in-between gathering and fighting during each match creates a sense of accomplishment. In a game where there is a 100-player free-for-all fight, your chances of winning are low, allowing the Battle Pass rewards gives the player this satisfaction of accomplishment even if you lose. Over the past month, Epic has been teasing and creating ARGs in-game for the lead up to Season 4. Hearing about the meteors crashing down on Tilted Towers was cool but I didn’t think anything of it, as I thought it to be a cosmetic choice. But after seeing the video where Titled Towers got hit with small meteors during a match made me believe that the rumored Superhero themed Season Pass might be true. Long a
