The first Titanfall was known
and loved for their high action, mech fighting multiplayer, now with new
weapons and modes. The fast-pace nature of the game makes the gunplay feel fun
and seamless when combining the grappling hook with wall running. This was just
one way to play as the multiplayer allows the player to mix and match your
loadouts. Moving around buildings and terrain feels amazing.
Before starting a match, you
got to add your own spin to your loadout. There is so much customization from
you to your gun all the way to your mechanized buddy. When you first start out
you will be entitled to three out of seven classes. To list a few, “Stim” will
provide the player with a burst of speed and health for a small amount of time,
“Grapple” speaks for itself – you can grapple to an object and fly in that
direction, and “Pulse Blade “gives the player a throwing knife that will
project all the enemies in the pulse knife’s range.
Playing matches will earn
currency in which it will allow you to unlock more equipment. There are many
weapons in the primary slot, so they’re split into subcategories. Each weapon
has its own perks like faster re-loading, shooting while moving, and extra ammo,
etc. There are two slots to add perks, another slot for gunsight, and a last
slot for “Pro screen” which lets the player see the number of kills from that
weapon. The number of weapons and customization can make each match feel fresh
with multiple ways to play.
There are six Titians available that must be
unlocked, except for “Ion”. The other Titans are “Scorch” a fire elemental
Titan, “Northstar” a Titan that uses a railgun and can hover, “Ronin” a ninja,
melee-like Titan, “Tone” a more well-rounded Titan fit for any situation, and
“Legion” plays more of a tank role. Each Titan will be given three abilities
that could be customized. Titan kit and Titanfall kit abilities can be changed,
but it’s the same for all Titans. To make your Titan more a tune to your
gameplay you can customize your Titan’s “class” kit which has unique abilities
for each Titan.
There are more multiplayer
modes than the first game, but kept their biggest mode in Attrition. Now they’re
seven different modes to choose from. In Attrition, you will gain points for
each kill, AI or other-wise, Bounty Hunt is the same, but you earn money and
cash it in, and Last Titan Standing is a mode that starts you out with Titans. If
you have trouble find out what mode to play there is also a mixtape, mixtape is
a mode that will randomize you into a populated mode.
Now you’re equipment ready
for Titanfall. Once dropped you are free to wall run, grapple, and shoot, this
where the fun begins. It’s a natural feel while moving through the landscape
and walls, when thinking about my surroundings I rely on muscle memory to guide
me through my movements. With Titanfall 2 that muscle memory was present
instantly. During massive battles with Titians you see explosions and gunfire
like being in a Michael Bay Transformers movie. Everything looks chaotic from
the big robots to the massive explosion to small enemies running everywhere.
It’s a great sight to see.
Even when you lose there is a
redeeming mechanic in the game that makes the losing team feel a sense of
accomplishment. At the end of every match the losing team must escape by
helicopter. The catch is that the winning team can also either kill the enemies
or destroy the helicopter. This makes the sense of losing also a sense of
victory.
