Fortnite: Battle Royale Mode is Getting Some New Updates in the Horizon

The Battle Royale genre has taken off like I wouldn’t have expected. PUBG was the biggest game that got attraction because of the quick matches and realistic shooting and gunplay. Shorty, after months of release we saw PUBG become the biggest game in 2017. Being this successful, it was just a matter of time before someone else cashed-in with the Battle Royale genre. Here comes Epic the makers of the Unreal Engine and oddly enough – the engine that PUBG was developed under. Epic’s Fortnite is just as surprising as PUBG in terms of player base with Fortnite surpassing 3.4 million concurrent players just ahead of PUBG . Now that Fortnite has this massive player based, Epic needs to update and change some of its problems (shooting, map, communication, etc.) Epic released a “ State of Development ” post on their website. There are a couple big changes and additions that will make the game feel fresh with new game modes, better optimization for console players, and seas...

My Game of the Year (2017) – The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild #1

2017 will be remembered for all these amazing games. Nintendo will also be remembered in 2017 for releasing the Nintendo Switch and how it changed many gamers play their games. Nintendo’s 2017 saw the release of a new 3D Mario , two sequels to two highly recommended games in Splatoon 2 and Xenoblade Chronicles 2 , and lastly, a completely new IP with ARMS and much more. Though the Switch was this massive success it wasn’t always portrayed that way. At the January reveal event Nintendo showed the promise of what the Nintendo Switch could be. They showed off many games that I listed above, but also some that would be releasing next year. As the event ended the community had mix feelings about the whole Switch event with only 3-4 launch games with the Switch. One of those launch games were The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, my #1 game of 2017 and the first example of how the Switch is truly the most innovative console in recent memory. Breath of the Wild saved the Swi...

My Game of the Year (2017) – Horizon Zero Dawn #2

Watching this game for the first time at E3 my jaw dropped at the stunning visuals, the world its trying to create and, most important are the amazingly designed mechanize dinosaurs. When I heard that the developers of Killzone were making this game, it made me a little warry. Hearing that this is an open world 3 rd person RPG – these were not the type of games Guerrilla Games developed.  Guerrilla was always known for their tight first-person shooting, and for them to make something out of their comfort zone could be something special or something that had promise but flopped. It’s great to say that Horizon Zero Dawn was an amazing accomplishment for Guerilla Games this year and year to come. Horizon’s Open World is Lush and Lively The world in Horizon is so interesting and full of mysteries it keeps you wondering for most of the game. As the game goes on you learn more about Aloy’s (Main character) past and how she is tied within the world. The cities and se...

My Game of the Year (2017) – Destiny 2 #3

There was a lot of excitement for the Bungie ’s second go around with Destiny 2 . There was a lot of controversy over what was changed and what didn’t return from the first Destiny .  At first the changes were for the better, it allowed new players to finally wrap their head around the system that was difficult to process in original Destiny.   Rising reputation with an NPC is one change that was assessable newcomers. In Destiny 1 it always felt like a chore, because of the bounty system. This system made it a more difficult task due to the action associated with the bounty – this can range from headshots with a sniper in PvP to complete 3 strikes. With Destiny 2 , the reputation is more streamline with turn-in tokens. Earning these tokens are common and I great resource of gear/weapons when you’re first starting out. These tokens are associated with each planet. Its great Bungie is listening to the players and in doing so, made an assessable loot shooter for the ca...

My Game of the Year (2017) – Super Mario: Odyssey #4

At the beginning of the year Nintendo was at the backend of the console market. We knew that they were going to launch a brand-new console, but was that enough to put Nintendo back in the conversation? In March, Nintendo was set to launch their new console – The Nintendo Switch along with the highly anticipated Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Nintendo promise a trickle of game every month, for the most part they stayed true to that with re-releases of Wii-U games, new exclusive games, and an abundance of indie games. But the next highly anticipated game for Nintendo was Mario Odyssey set to release in October. Now the we understand the importance and the impact the Switch has in the industry. A hybrid console that can be played at home and on the go in handheld. When you combine the portable nature of the Switch and how Mario: Odyssey’s pick-up and play gameplay of collection is – it’s a perfect storm of joy in any time of day. Mario Odyssey Made Me Feel Like a Kid Again Th...
