What I want to see at E3 2017

It’s that time of year once again, the time where gamers geek out with the recent news, trailers, and games that came out of E3. Last year’s E3 was the first time I actively followed it. That led me into writing about video games, and I’m loving it. During that E3 there were many surprises, but also predictable moments. I’m hoping to get surprised by a nice or interesting looking game that has been shown yet. Following last E3, most of my anticipated games were shown last year.

God of War

I’ve never played any game in its series. The hack and slack with stylist-action never caught my attention. What did was the world, characters, and the mythology. I’ve always been fond of mythology from all parts of the world, especially Greek mythology.

At last year’s E3, Sony showed off the rebooted God of War, developed and directed by Sony Santa Monica Studio’s Cory Barlog. This time they left the stylist-action out and added a slower, and more methodical combat system. A Dark Souls-like, if you will.

Also, the world has changed themes. The series of games has been centered around Greek mythology, this time around it will be centered around Norse mythology – which will be refreshing after so many games in Greek mythology.

What I want to see this time is more combat gameplay (preferably playable) and a little more story detail. Whether its character, main story, or the world. I want something that I can hold my interest until we know the final release date.

Red Dead Redemption 2

Red Dead Redemption 2 was revealed back in October and had a release date of fall 2017. It’s now delayed until 2018, making it more probable it will be at E3 this year. The thing is that Rockstar never appears on stage, making it difficult confirming the game is at E3.

We don’t know much about the game, that’s why this game is so high on my list of anticipated games. The only information we have about Red Dead 2 is that it’s rumored to be a prequel and might have multiple protagonist – like GTA V.

I want to see a release date (that will be delayed) and more of the moment to moment gameplay like, walking in the open world, and speaking to NPCs. I also want to hear more in-depth with their online multi-player. Take-Two (Rockstar’s publishing partner) says that online will be a major focus in the sequel. We just got to wait and see what’s in-store for us at E3.

Xbox Scorpio

Microsoft E3 Scorpio Reveal Trailer

Like the PS4 Pro, Xbox is coming up with their 4k console codename: Scorpio. This will be an interesting conference for Microsoft, because it could be a do or die type of situation for them. Many gamers adored the Xbox 360 because of the exclusive games. This time it’s the PS4 that has the exclusive, with Microsoft having almost none exclusive throughout this year.

Scorpio can help Microsoft’s gaming division, but it will all be for nothing if they don’t show any games on it. PS4 success isn’t because of hardware, it’s because of their first-party and indie support.

Microsoft needs to come out strong with several first-party games on the Scorpio. Of course, the Scorpio will be shown more in-depth with specs and features. One thing I do want to know about Scorpio is how they will handle support for all three of the Xbox One line. How will games get the 4k support for all platforms, and options for graphics and performance improvements.

This will be my first E3 I will be following intensely and every year leading up to E3 has been enjoyable, and eventful. Seeing and hearing about new games is always interesting. The reactions from all the outlets like IGN, Gamespot, Gaintbomb, and Kotaku gives the gamers watching at home a sense of the games shown at E3. One day I hope to cover E3 and all its craziness.

Mario Tennis Aces “Swing Mode” is Really Disappointing

Mario Tennis Aces is the latest entry to the Mario Tennis series. This time around Nintendo did no wrong with their tennis series giving us an adventure mode where you move from level to level to complete a series of challenges, a fun online/offline tournament, and exciting local play. I haven’t played the Mario Tennis series since the GameCube days, but I’m having as much fun as I did back then, expect for one mode that made me hate motion controls. During the lead up to launch I had questions about full motion controls, if they would support it for full matches? Can it be an alternative? and will it be like Wii Sports or will it have depth will in the base game? These questions were answered just a couple of days before launch and I was disappointed in how Nintendo implemented the motion controls. Coming from the developers of Wii Sports and how well the motion controls worked with the tennis mini-game gave me hope that Nintendo could do something great with motion ...

My Game of the Year (2017) – Destiny 2 #3

There was a lot of excitement for the Bungie ’s second go around with Destiny 2 . There was a lot of controversy over what was changed and what didn’t return from the first Destiny .  At first the changes were for the better, it allowed new players to finally wrap their head around the system that was difficult to process in original Destiny.   Rising reputation with an NPC is one change that was assessable newcomers. In Destiny 1 it always felt like a chore, because of the bounty system. This system made it a more difficult task due to the action associated with the bounty – this can range from headshots with a sniper in PvP to complete 3 strikes. With Destiny 2 , the reputation is more streamline with turn-in tokens. Earning these tokens are common and I great resource of gear/weapons when you’re first starting out. These tokens are associated with each planet. Its great Bungie is listening to the players and in doing so, made an assessable loot shooter for the ca...

My 2016 Game of the Year: # 5 Firewatch

#5 Firewatch When I first saw early builds of Firewatch I thought it was a different and new approach in an engaging narrative. The way you can interact with objects and the small clues you can find within the environment provides more life to the world. Firewatch was the first game I played in the genre, but there are other games that have the same kind of first-person narrative. Gone Home is one of the recent and well-received first-person narrative game. The two games are similar in gameplay, you walk from objective to objective trying to put the pieces together in the world. Gone Home is set in a house, and in Firewatch’s case, you’re in an open forest. Campo Santo are the developers of Firewatch and was formed by former Telltales: The Walking Dead developers. Once I knew about Campo Santo and the developers that were working on the game I had a sense of what to expect. Character Building Makes You Sympathize with Henry The game starts strong with a se...
