Nintendo Direct for Fire Emblem

This past Wednesday, Nintendo held a Fire Emblem Nintendo Direct -- they showed some gameplay of a New 3DS game called Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadow of Valentia, Fire Emblem Warriors for New 3DS and the Nintendo Switch. And speaking of Switch they also mentioned a brand-new game just for the Switch, more information in 2018, and last was the biggest one because it releases on Feb 2nd, Fire Emblem: Heroes which is going to be release for mobile devices.

Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadow of Valentia is going to be a sequel to Fire Emblem Gaiden – which did not have a North American release. Everything from the gameplay has been changed and reworked. They talked about free roaming, recreating the world, and character customization. This will be released for the 3DS on May 17th.

Fire Emblem Warriors didn’t show much, just a trailer. This game is developed by Keoi Tecmo, and their game isn’t any different from all the other Dynasty Warriors clone. More to come in this year, and will be released for Nintendo Switch and New 3DS.

They didn’t show or talked about anything regarding the new Switch title. They just mentioned it and more to come in 2018.

Now for the bulk of the Direct, Fire Emblem: Heroes which is for mobile only. They talked more in-depth about this game more than anything else. It will have an original story just for this version. You will play as a summoner and call upon the heroes from all the Fire Emblem games. Each battle will have an 8x6 grid designed for smartphones, Nintendo said, that the triangle weapon system will be the same as in other Fire Emblem games.

Like in any smartphone RPG games you can upgrade your heroes and can even summon other heroes to help. Although those summoned heroes come at a real-world cost, and can be purchased at an in-game store.

The story isn’t the only mode you can experience, there will be four modes at launch:
·         The first is Story Maps, which allows the player to challenge and capture familiar heroes
·         Second is the Training Tower, this lets you play in various battle sequences in multiple difficultly. You can earn rewards and experience that you can repeat over and over, each time you complete a challenge new enemies and terrain will change.

·         Thirdly is Arena Duels, this is a PvP mode that allows you to challenge other summoners around the world. Your high score and rank determines what rewards to get.
·         Fourth and last are Hero Battles, which are timed under special maps, and different battles to experience, which are also timed. Find and defeat the main enemy and convince them to join your army.

Fire Emblem Heroes will be released for Android on Feb 2nd and on IPhone later.

Fortnite: Battle Royale: Season 4 Just Made Some Crazy Changes and I in Love with it

Fortnite has become this huge juggernaut in the gaming industry ever since Epic released their Battle Royale mode in late September. The Battle Pass implementation gave the player a progression system that gamify the Battle Royale mode, of which PUBG does not have. Having something to accomplish in-between gathering and fighting during each match creates a sense of accomplishment. In a game where there is a 100-player free-for-all fight, your chances of winning are low, allowing the Battle Pass rewards gives the player this satisfaction of accomplishment even if you lose. Over the past month, Epic has been teasing and creating ARGs in-game for the lead up to Season 4. Hearing about the meteors crashing down on Tilted Towers was cool but I didn’t think anything of it, as I thought it to be a cosmetic choice. But after seeing the video where Titled Towers got hit with small meteors during a match made me believe that the rumored Superhero themed Season Pass might be true. Long a...

My 2016 Game of the Year: # 5 Firewatch

#5 Firewatch When I first saw early builds of Firewatch I thought it was a different and new approach in an engaging narrative. The way you can interact with objects and the small clues you can find within the environment provides more life to the world. Firewatch was the first game I played in the genre, but there are other games that have the same kind of first-person narrative. Gone Home is one of the recent and well-received first-person narrative game. The two games are similar in gameplay, you walk from objective to objective trying to put the pieces together in the world. Gone Home is set in a house, and in Firewatch’s case, you’re in an open forest. Campo Santo are the developers of Firewatch and was formed by former Telltales: The Walking Dead developers. Once I knew about Campo Santo and the developers that were working on the game I had a sense of what to expect. Character Building Makes You Sympathize with Henry The game starts strong with a se...
